The NCAA and its related associations announced several men’s hockey awards on Friday, as part of the Frozen Four festivities. While Max Plante captured the Hobey Baker Award, a pair of Calgary Flames prospects were also honoured as part of Friday’s announcement.
Ethan Wyttenbach received the Tim Taylor Award, while both Wyttenbach and Tyson Gross were named All-Americans.

Tim Taylor Award

Wyttenbach was named winner of Tim Taylor Award, the national men’s rookie of the year as selected by the Hockey Commissioners Association.
As you may have heard, Wyttenbach was the NCAA’s leading scorer this past season, with 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points. As the NCAA’s leading overall scorer, he was also their leading freshman scorer. He had a very good offensive season and edged out Gavin McKenna by eight points for the NCAA freshman scoring crown. Wyttenbach is the first Flames prospect to win the Tim Taylor Award since Jon Gillies back in 2012-13.
A fourth-round pick by the Flames in the 2025 NHL Draft, Wyttenbach is returning to Quinnipiac University for his sophomore season in 2026-27.

National All-American teams

The national All-American teams are essentially the NCAA’s national all-stars, as selected by the American Hockey Coaches Association. There are four teams selected, comprised of first and second all-star teams for the west and east.
Wyttenbach was named as a First Team East All-American, alongside goalie Michael Hrabal (Massachusetts), defencemen Brandon Holt (Maine) and Colt Hutson (Boston University), and forwards James Hagens (Boston College) and Hayden Stavroff (Dartmouth College).
Gross was named as a Second Team West All-American, alongside goalie Josh Kotai (Augustana), defencemen Ty Hanson (Minnesota Duluth) and Evan Murr (Minnesota State), and forwards Gavin McKenna (Penn State) and Charlie Stramel (Michigan State). A junior at St. Cloud State University, Gross had 41 points in 36 games and then signed with the Flames as a free agent at the end of the season. (He scored his first NHL goal on Thursday night against Colorado in his third NHL game.)
These are the final collegiate awards for the 2025-26 season. Here’s a quick rundown of which Flames prospects won what:
  • Cole Reschny: NCHC All-Rookie Team and NCHC Rookie of the Year
  • Jonathan Castagna: ECAC First All-Star Team and ECAC Defensive Forward of the Year
