A pair of Calgary Flames prospects have been invited to national team camps for the next two World Junior Championship tournaments. William Stromgren will vie for a spot on Sweden’s 2023 team, while Topi Ronni will be trying out for Finland’s 2022 team.

Stromgren, 19, was a second-round selection by the Flames in 2021 NHL Draft. He split last season between Rogle BK’s SHL and J20 Nationell teams. He’s going to be one of 46 players gathering in Enkoping, Sweden from July 24-49 to compete for roster spots in the 2023 tournament, which takes place over the winter holidays in Halifax and Moncton. (Sweden won’t name their team after the July camp, obviously, but they’ll probably slot players in and figure out where everybody stands before naming the team in late November.)

Ronni, 18, was a second-round selection by the Flames in the 2022 NHL Draft. He split last season between Tappara’s Liiga and SM-sarja teams, as well as brief loans to HPK (in Liiga) and KeuPa HT (in Mestis). He’s going to be part of two Finnish teams – a primary team and a “challenger” team – competing in camp in Vierumaki, Finland in July. (The Finnish federation didn’t include dates in their announcement.) The team named after this event will compete in the 2022 World Juniors in Edmonton in August, the tournament that was postponed from the 2021-22 winter holidays due to the pandemic.

Other Flames prospects previously announced as invited to camps include Matt Coronato (competing for a spot on USA Hockey’s 2022 team) and Jack Beck (competing for a spot on Canada’s 2023 team).
