Flames best game of the season considering the quality of their opponent. They led for a majority of the match and still ended up outchancing the Hawks at ES 18-13. It helps when pucks go in, but not falling back into the hard shell when you have that lead helps too. The Hawks also eschewed chasing hard in the third when Glencross scored (instead rolling 4 lines to they could rest their stars for tomorrow) but it’s still worth mentioning that the Flames were full value for the win.
Ironically, the Iginla line had their best game of the year by this metric, but couldn’t cash in so their offensive struggles continue. The rest of the line-up was just decent, but made good on their chances. The Hawks were very loose in their own end for the second straight contest versus the Flames and this time Calgary made them pay. Chicago is still a scary good club with the puck on their sticks north of the red line, but they have some work to do ont he defensive side of things if the games against Calgary are at all indicative.
Im not sure how often we can expect the Flames to play at that level – this is likely as good as they get…but it’s nice to see nonetheless.
