Another extra time loss. This has to be the lowest event game of the year, owing to both clubs playing most of the contest between the bluelines. The Devils went into the deepest defensive shell after going up by one that I’ve seen in a loing time. They are severely limited with the absence oif guys like Langenbrunner and Parise on the shelf and Kovalchuk playing terrible hockey.
The Flames did enough to win in reguation. They were the only club generating anything from the second period on. That said, it was another no-show for a first period and it’s not like they blew the Devils out of the water when they were sitting back. The Flames managed five shots in the third period, despite the importance of this game and the apparent impotence of their opponent. They were also lucky to escape the OT alive.
Enough to win with some bounces. But hardly compelling.
Also – Olli Jokinen’s numbers are decieving. He was mostly a detriment on the first line and they managed chances mostly despite his presence.
