A pretty even keel game for the home team. They mostly controlled play when the game was in doubt and didn’t give the Oilers too much when they were chasing in the third,
It was the bottom-end of the rotation doing the good spade work for the Flames in this one. Backlund’s trio continues to impress me in particular – they move the puck really well through the neutral zone and are pretty adept at cycling. Back’s is skating very well in partciular while Comeau has fit like a glove on that unit. Jackman, Stajan and Kostopolous also caused a lot of havoc.
The first line was very feast or famine this evening. They had alternating shifts where they would dominate and then be dominted in terms of chances and possession. That’s why they more or less ended up even in both by the end of the night at ES.
Didn’t notice Greg Nemisz much, aside from a few board battles where he looked over his head. Sutter spared him the ice as much as possible, but he still looked like a dude swimming against the tide. He’s not ready yet.
