Things ended up close by the count, but the truth is the Flames were well behind after two. They garnered just 7 chances through two periods and went long stretches between shots on net. The Kings could have been ahead by three or four goals in the second period most other nights and there wouldn’t have been a chance for a late game flurry. Calgary pressed to make things interesting with the Kings sitting back, but it wasn’t surprising to see them on the wrong side of the score.
None of the Flames regulars are terribly underwater this evening, mostly becasue no one line was overly dominated. Kings just seemed to roll over the Flames in periods 1 and 2 in thin but equal measures. Jokinen’s line was terrible this evening, leading things by the chance count, although Brent Sutter decided to give them the high ground in terms of offensive zone face-offs tonight, so we can safely say that had something to do with it. I’m not sure why Brent would go for that strategy, aside from the fact that Jokinen et al got eaten for breakfast last game and he wanted to avoid that this time. Didn’t help the team in general, but it kept the Euro line out of the red…
