The totals in this game are extremely deceiving. The Flames were underwater until the middle of the third period when the Panthers took a 3-0 lead. Calgary pressed the attack at that point and augmented their chance totals, but the truth is the Panthers were mostly the better team for a majority of the evening. They managed all of 5 ES chances on home ice through 2 periods, which is a pretty stiff indictment of a club with aspirations of making the playoffs.
Other items:
– Iginla’s totals took off in the third, not coindicentally with Stajan on his line instead of Jokinen.
– To the surprise of no one, Brodie and Staios were underwater. Rookie + aging replacement level player = bad news.
