Flames came out with a very strong initial 10 minutes and then fell off a cliff. The Preds were lucky to be ahead by 2 to start the second but were full value after that. They beat the Flames in the second and then shut them down in the third (in terms of shots and chances, at least).
Calgary ended up marginally outchancing the Preds at ES, but that’s nothing impressive given they were chasing for a majority of the evening. Chasing one of the worst outshooting clubs in the league should result in a lop-sided chance/shot count in the chaser’s favor, but that wasn’t the case.
As such, the Flames continue to struggle to do anything worthwhile at ES. It was a regulation loss this time around because the team didn’t receive top notch goaltending for the first time in awhile. There will be more of these contests in the future if the Flames can’t turn their ES play around.
