Not a bad evening in terms of limiting the Caps to just 10 chances against. Some of that is score effects since WAS simply sat back and protected the lead in the third, but it’s not like they were dominating prior to that. Of course, the Flames didn’t exactly light things up themselves with just 13 total chances and 19 shots on net, despite trailing the entire contest.
Calgary’s primary weakness remains an inability to drive the play at ES. They mostly kept the Caps to the outside tonight, but they were also kept to the outside themselves as well. A minimum "goal" for an NHL team should be 5 chances per period (at least) which is something the Flames have failed to do consistently for weeks now. It’s tough to score when you get 15 or less shots from the scoring area per night.
