A pretty strong evening out of the Flames given their line-up. When looking at the final count, keep in mind the Wild ran up their number after falling behind by three in the third (8 of their 20 chances) meaning the Flames were ahead of things to that point.
The first two periods were mind-numbing (three ES chances between both teams in the second) but Calgary was playing a glorified AHL squad so keeping things simple and low event was probably the game plan. In terms of individual performances, the line Backlund and Stempniak had a really good evening. Bouma was also pretty strong for his first NHL game of the year.
Of course, Jarome also scored his 500th. It wasn’t the prettiest marker and the first line didn’t really drive things, but that doesn’t really matter. Congrats again to the Flames captain and best ever player.
