A fairly strong game from Calgary, all things considered. They played the best team in the west in their own barn on the second night of a B2B and held them to even in terms of ES scoring chances through two periods. A punchless first and the Canucks scoring a couple on the PP were the difference, although the game could have gone either way in the end.
Vancouver really, really misses Hamhuis et al on the back-end. With Salo playing his first of the season, AV stuck with Bieksa and Alberts against Iginla all night and they just got eaten alive. Jarome isn’t amongst the elite anymore, but he’s still going to beat up on a guy like Alberts more often than not. Sutter’s decision to put Curtis Glencross on the top line instead of Bourque made that trio even stronger which is why they finished in the black across the board.
A disappointing result, but not because of a poor performance.
