Unlike the last few contests, the Flames were the better club from top-to-bottom this evening. The first period was more or less equal, but Calgary pulled away in the second and left the Preds in their dust. No Flame finished in the red by this metric tonight and, more importantly, the money players were all above water. The newly formed Iginla, Moss, Tanguay line had a very able night at both ends of the rink, although being matched up against the Preds "2nd unit" of Fisher, Kostitsyn and Hornqvist didn’t hurt.
Jokinen’s line including Glencross and Bourque had their stuff run by Legwand’s line early, but managed to turn the tide as the evening wore on. Bourque looked something of his old self again, particularly in the third, which helped assuaged the loss of Moss to the top line. I think Bourque’s +6 number tonight is his best in a long time (perhaps the Heritage classic?). Here’s hoping he can keep it up.
Anyways, great game all around. Ironically, the Flames were probably unlucky to only win by one.
