Well, not much to this one. Ten ES chances in a game where you chased most of the night is going to lose you a lot of games. Calgary had 2 scoring chances through the first 30+ minutes of action, at home, against a team lacking it’s best forward and a top-3 defender. Not enough by a long-shot.
In terms of the lines, Iginla was combined with Backlund and they got their asses handed to them. Jokinen’s line had a better night in terms of chances differential, but Brent gave them some really preferential treatment – like a team high 11 offensive zone draws, so the fact that they basically broke even is actually an indictment of their play. On the back-end, Babchuk saw his ice time climb up to the 17 minute mark and went oh fer five as a partial result. Bouwmeester and Regehr had a rough night as well, in terms of both the chance count and actual plus/minus.
The money players mostly struggled this evening and the Flames now somewhat limited depth couldn’t pick-up the slack. It’s going to be tough stretch run here.
On the plus side…the PK was good.
