San Jose has been the scene of a lot of ugly massacres for the Flames the last few years. Add this one to the list. The only reason Calgary was within three by the end was two lucky bounces (Sarich point shot, Bourque shot from the side of the net). They were fundamentally outplayed in every way and it wasn’t even close.
The kids and Jackman were alright, frankly, but the money players got absolutely buried. Bouwmeester in particular had a terrible evening. Jarome et al were outclassed. If there was ever a classic example of why the Flames need to improve the top-end of the rotation, it was tonight. Calgary hasn’t beaten a better than average team in weeks, which is why they’ll be consigned to the middle of the conference until they add a few more elite talents – particularly up front.
