It’s been a relatively quiet day for the Calgary Flames relative to the draft or the blockbuster involving Tom McCollum heading to the Detroit Red Wings, but the Flames made a minor move to shore up some depth in signing Marek Hrivik.

Hrivik was among a handful of New York Rangers players not qualified making him a pending UFA this summer. Getting a two-way deal gives the Flames a bit more flexibility given Linden Vey heading to the KHL left a void in Stockton for this fall. Hrivik joins a long list of forwards like Mark Jankowski and Spencer Foo who will be chomping at the bit in training camp in hopes of securing an NHL roster spot.

An undrafted forward who spent most of his pro career with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL), Hrivik put up passable numbers with 168 points in 318 games (0.53 PPG) in the AHL, including 16 goals and 24 assists in 56 games played this past season.

Hrivik has played 21 NHL games, all with the New York Rangers over the past two seasons. He has three assists to show for it, but also a 52.57% 5v5 CF (+4.90% rel) with 25.41% offensive zone faceoffs, albeit while averaging 10:29 in NHL ice time over his career to date.
