Flames will don pair of new red jerseys, a Saddledome tribute and a 2004 throwback, in 2026-27: report

Friends, a couple days ago, our pals at Icethetics provided an update on the long-rumoured launch of the National Hockey League’s Hometown Remix alternate jersey line for the 2026-27 season.
In short: hey, all 32 NHL teams are going to have funky alternate jerseys for next season. A few are starting to leak. The Calgary Flames’ jersey is expected to be red, which feels appropriate all things considered.
Anyway, on Monday, our pals D.J. Bean and Pete Blackburn from What Chaos! provided an update on what they’ve heard regarding new jerseys for next season. And among the teams they mentioned were the aforementioned Flames, and Bean mentioned something that’s been rumoured for awhile – dating back to a season ticket-holder’s event last fall – the Flames are going to have rocking two alternate jerseys next season.
And they’re both going to be red.
Here’s Bean:
Now, Flames will be the last one we’ll give you here. And it is because I had some people asking about it. It’s the Flaming C logo in yellow on a red jersey. And then some Saddledome-inspired details in yellow as it is the last year at the Saddledome. So it’s going to be a little tribute to that. Also, additionally, hearing they will bring back the red and black jersey from the ‘04 Cup run, as a third jersey for the Saddledome’s last season.
Let’s break down what we’ve learned from Icethetics and What Chaos, shall we?
Hometown Remix
Now, the Flames have had a pretty consistent colour scheme since entering the NHL in Atlanta in 1972: red and white with yellow accents. When the Flames introduced the pedestal jerseys in 1995, black was added as an accent colour.
Now, over the years, we’ve seen black get its time in the sun with the various iterations of the Blasty alternate jersey. But yellow hasn’t had a huge role – the most prominent spot for it was in the 2011 Heritage Classic uniforms, creating a colour scheme fans referred to as “Ronald McDonald inspired.” However, the Flames’ ‘Dome Farewell Season logo pretty prominently features yellow, which seems like a pretty good indication of what may be intended here.
It’s worth noting that the Flames have never had a yellow C on their jerseys: it’s always been red, white or black. So this should be a unique look, albeit probably a short-term one.
2004 Throwback
Hey, remember when the Flames went to the Stanley Cup Final in 2004? It was fun, there was hooting and hollering and snacks. Well, the Flames used that jersey between 2003 and 2007, at which point the NHL changed jersey providers and the red jersey with the black C was changed for the worst – there was extra piping and shoulder flags added for the RBK Edge template.
Anyway, it sure does sound like the old-school – in this case “old school” means 20 years old – red jerseys with black Cs are returning as an alternate. We’re not sure what this means for Blasty, but the general NHL guidelines have been to have four jerseys per season, so it possibly means that Blasty may be going back into the closet of history for awhile.
We’ll have more on the jersey situation as news becomes available. We’re hoping to see an announcement closer to the start of the season, especially as the Flames ramp up plans to commemorate the final year of hockey at the Saddledome.
