Welcome to the yearly wrap up of the top read articles over the last year!
One of the many things that needed to be worked through when the NHL’s return-to-play happened was the draft order for the 2020 draft.
And on Aug. 22, the first round was finished and the Flames draft order was set.
An article published by FlamesNation editor Ryan Pike on where those picks were was the 20th most read article this year.
It revealed that the Flames would be making their first choice at 19th overall, but Calgary traded down to spot 24 and drafted Connor Zary.
Their second pick was 50th overall, where Calgary picked Yan Kuznetsov.
Calgary was set to maybe pick 76th overall, but that pick later went to Chicago in the Erik Gustafsson trade. Calgary ended up picking 72nd (acquired in the Zary trade back) where they took Jeremie Poirier and at 80th overall, Jake Boltmann.
Calgary held onto their remaining picks through the draft.
At 96th overall, they took Daniil Chechelev, Ryan Francis 143rd overall, Rory Kerins 174th overall and Ilya Solovyob 205th overall.
