Yegor Sharangovich kicked off his Flames career with a bang scoring a career high 31 goals.
Unfortunately he has never been able to recreate the magic from the 2023-24 season. His last two years in a Flames sweater have been underwhelming to say the least.
Sharangovch has gone from leading the Flames in scoring three seasons ago, to becoming a non factor on a lot of nights and someone Ryan Huska has difficulty finding a place for in the lineup.
Let’s take a look at his 2025-26 season.

Expectations

It was a tale of two seasons for Sharangovich in Calgary prior to this season.
In 2023-24 he led the Flames in goals (31) and was second in points (59). It looked like the start of something special for the young Belarusian in Calgary.
He followed that up with a disappointing 2024-25 campaign putting up 17 goals and 15 assists in 73 games. And it wasn’t just the points that dropped off, it was the overall effectiveness of his game.
What Sharangovich were we expecting this season? I don’t know if many fans had a good answer to that question.
It turns out we got the 2024-25 version of Sharangovich.

Performance

You can break down Sharangovich’s performance based on his play with and without the puck.
With the puck, Sharangovich was not an effective player for the Flames. His point totals dropped for a second consecutive season with 15 goals, 14 assists in 78 games. The issue I had with Sharangoich is the fact that he has a high end shot in the NHL. There is no doubt in my mind that he can be a consistent 20+ goal scorer if he would shoot the puck more. There were too many nights when Sharganovich wouldn’t get a good shot off. His shot is his money maker. He needs to use it more in the future.
Sharangovich should be in the top three of shot metrics for the Flames next season with a goal to get off 3-5 shots per game.
Away from the puck, Sharangovich needs to increase his intensity level. He has become a player who is very easy to play against. Opposing players do not need to worry about Sharangovich when they are on the ice together because he won’t lay a big hit and he won’t win a ton of puck battles.
And he doesn’t need to become the next Ryan Lomberg with his physicality. But all Flames fans want is the effort level, intensity, passion, emotion and physicality to go up a level or two.
If he can shoot the puck more and increase his compete, he has the potential to become a very effective player in the NHL.

Outlook

Sharangovich completed the first year of a five year contract extension that pays him $5.75 million. Sharangovich isn’t going anywhere because of his contract and the way he has performed. I’d be surprised if there was a team out there who would be willing to take on Sharangovich and the remaining four years of his deal.
Craig Conroy and Ryan Huska are hoping that the 27 year old is going to be able to rebound and get back closer to his 2023-24 level when he scored 31 goals.
Sharangovich may not get traded this summer. But he has to worry about the young players who are coming up in the Flames system who are looking to take his spot in the lineup. Matvei Gridin has already passed him. Sam Honzek, Aydar Suniev, Ethan Wyttenbach, Cullen Potter and maybe a Gavin McKenna or Ivar Stenberg (if the Flames are lucky enough to win the lottery) are all going to have a chance to crack the Flames lineup over the next couple seasons. If Sharangovich doesn’t get his game together, he might be on the outside looking in for the last couple years of his contract.
Letter Grade: D
Sharangovich is talented enough to be a consistent 20+ goal scorer and become an effective middle six winger. It’s going to be up to him whether he wants to do that or not.
