The newest member of the Calgary Flames has been honoured for his work this season on the collegiate level. Forward Matt Coronato, formerly of Harvard University, was named a Second Team East All-American on Friday by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

The honour was announced as part of the NCAA’s annual award gala prior to the men’s tournament final. Coronato’s Harvard teammates Henry Thrun and Sean Farrell were named First Team East All-Americans. The All-American honour signifies, quite simply, that a player was one of the top players in his half of the United States’ collegiate system over the past season.

Coronato finished his sophomore season with 36 points in 34 games, and emerged as one of the most consistent goal-scorers in college hockey during his two seasons with Harvard. He signed an entry-level deal with the Flames back on Mar. 27 and reported to the NHL club the following day. He has yet to make his NHL debut, but is practising regularly with the team.

Coronato was the Flames’ first-round selection, 13th overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft.
