Bad news for one of the Calgary Flames’ top prospects. Stockton Heat forward Matthew Phillips, currently tied for seventh in American Hockey League scoring, is out month to month with a fractured knee cap.
Phillips, 21, is in the second year of his entry-level contract with the Flames. As a rookie he had a respectable 38 points in 65 games for the Heat. This season he’s put up 30 points in 28 games and earned his first NHL recall, though he didn’t play.
It’s a big disappointment, but hopefully Phillips has a full recovery as he could be valuable for either the Flames or Heat in their respective post-season pushes.
