#Oilers say Evander Kane underwent knee surgery in Edmonton on Thursday. It’s unrelated to September’s abdominal surgery, but team says it will cause him to pause that rehab in the meantime. Expected recovery from knee surgery portion is 4-8 weeks. Then what for abdominal?

The Edmonton Oilers will be without Evander Kane for even longer.
According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Kane underwent knee surgery on Thursday and is set to miss 4-8 weeks.
Kane hasn’t played this season because he underwent abdominal surgery during the off-season. While the knee surgery has nothing to do with the abdominal surgery, it’ll cause Kane to pause his rehab coming back from the other injury.
Last season with the Oilers, Kane scored 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games, along with four goals and eight points in 20 postseason games as the Oilers went to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. His first season with the Oilers in 2021-22 was his best though, as he managed 22 goals and 39 points in 43 games, along with 13 goals and 17 points in 15 postseason games.
Although the Oilers are without Kane, who offers not just a scoring threat but also a physical threat, they’re no worse for wear. This season, they have a 25-13-3 record with 53 points, good enough for second in the Pacific Division, two ahead of the Los Angeles Kings who have three fewer games played.
It seems that Kane will be ready closer to the post-season, meaning the Oilers will probably be able to use the $5.125 million in available cap space at the trade deadline.
Ridly Greig signed a four-year extension with the Senators
The Ottawa Senators have locked down one of their young players, as Ridly Greig signed a four-year extension with them worth $13 million, or $3.25 million annually.
Greig was selected 28th overall by the Senators in the 2020 draft. He made his debut in 2022-23, playing 20 games where he had two goals and nine points, before becoming a regular with the Senators in 2023-24. That season, he scored 13 goals and 26 points in 72 games.
So far this season, Greig has six goals and 12 points in 37 games as the Senators are just three points out of the final Wild Card spot.
Hockey Club’s Dylan Guenther is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury
On Friday, the Utah Hockey Club announced that forward Dylan Guenther will be out indefinitely due to a lower-body injury, while Josh Doan was called up from the American Hockey League team.
ROSTER UPDATE @utahhockeyclub forward Dylan Guenther will be out indefinitely (lower-body) The Club has recalled forward Josh Doan from the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL)
It’s a big loss for the Hockey Club, as Guenther has been one of their best players this season. His 16 goals lead the team while his 34 points are third on the team. Last season, the Edmonton, Alberta native scored 18 goals and 35 points in 45 games, spending a large portion of his season in the American Hockey League.
Drafted ninth overall in the 2021 draft, Guenther’s production has helped the Hockey Club hunt for a postseason spot, as they have a 17-16-7 record with 41 points, just five back of the Vancouver Canucks, who hold onto the final spot. Aside from the weird 2020 postseason, the Hockey Club (then the Arizona Coyotes) haven’t made the postseason since 2012.
As for Josh Doan, he’s the son of Coyotes legend Shane Doan, and the Coyotes picked him in the second-round of the 2021 draft. He made his National Hockey League debut towards the end of the 2023-24 season where he scored five goals and nine points in 11 games. So far in nine games with the Hockey Club this season, Doan has a goal and two points. In the American Hockey League with the Tucson Roadrunners, the 22-year-old has eight goals and 21 points in 25 games.
