The Philadelphia Flyers have opted against offering a qualifying offer to former Flame and pending RFA winger Jakob Pelletier, according to Daily Faceoff‘s Anthony Di Marco.
Pelletier, 24, collected seven goals and 19 points in 49 games split between the Flames and Flyers during the 2024-25 regular season. Unless the Flyers opt to re-engage, the 5’9″ winger will likely head to the UFA market on Tuesday as one of the youngest players available.
The Flames traded Pelletier to the Flyers alongside Andrei Kuzmenko and a 2025 second-round pick back in January, receiving forwards Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee in exchange. Pelletier skated in 25 games with the Flyers to conclude the season while counting for just $800,000 against the salary cap.
The Flyers subsequently flipped Kuzmenko to the Los Angeles Kings for a 2027 third-round pick, and they used the 2025 second-rounder to select forward Shane Vansaghi. Now, it appears Pelletier’s time in Philadelphia might be drawing to a close.
The Flames originally selected Pelletier in the first round (No. 26 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. The Quebec City product made his NHL debut with the Flames in the 2022-23 season but never quite carved out a niche with the big club until his final few weeks in Calgary.
Pelletier formed a close bond with veteran winger Jonathan Huberdeau during his NHL stints in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, with the two playing some of their best hockey in Calgary while on a line together. Huberdeau often jokingly referred to Pelletier as his “son” with the media and on social platforms.
In his 24 games with the Flames to begin the 2024-25 season, Pelletier posted some of the strongest underlying numbers on the team, including a 52% on-ice expected goals rate at 5-on-5. That largely continued into his tenure in Philly, during which the Flyers out-chanced their opponents by a wide margin with Pelletier on the ice.
Through 86 games over parts of three NHL seasons with the Flames and Flyers, Pelletier has collected 11 goals and 29 points.
