The Calgary Wranglers wrapped up their season series against the Henderson Silver Knights on Thursday. They found themselves working from behind in this game and around the midway mark of the third period, they were within just a single goal. A pair of quick tallies from their opponents, five total power play goals and a hefty line brawl made for a messy third frame and a game that ended in an 8-3 loss for the Wranglers.
Lineup notes
Calgary made a few changes for this game. Simon Mack and Alex Gallant slotted back in and Carter Wilkie and Turner Ottenbreit slotted out. The top forward line was also the only line combination or pairing that didn’t change from Tuesday.
Wranglers lines

Brennan Othmann – Clark Bishop – Carter King
Parker Bell – David Silye – Alex Gallant

Game at a glance
Calgary went back to Arsenii Sergeev for this game and Henderson went right back to Carl Lindbom for this start. The first few minutes of this game were way less eventful than their last match-up. The Silver Knights led the efforts to start and the Wranglers were called for their first penalty of the game at 5:52, when Dryden Hunt was called for high sticking. Less than a minute into this man advantage, Mitch McLain scored the opening goal at 6:38.
The Las Vegas affiliate continued to build off this start and scored once again at 11:03. The Wranglers got a bit of a relief at 13:04 when the visitors were called for tripping then Dryden Hunt managed the first Wranglers shot of the game at 13:12. Shortly after this power play ended, David Silye was called for slashing.
Towards the end of the penalty kill, the Silver Knights scored another on the power play from Tanner Laczynski at 18:07. Before the end of the frame, the Wranglers were called for another penalty as Dryden Hunt got a roughing – removing the helmet penalty at 19:04. At the end of the first period, the Wranglers were down 3-0 and only put up one shot to Henderson’s 13 in the opening frame.
The second period started with 1:06 of a Wranglers penalty kill that unfortunately couldn’t get the job done. 51 seconds into the second, Mitch McLain scored his second of the night on the power play. At 5:41, Calgary finally got their second shot of the game and had a bit of a run of zone time to try to get something going in this game. They were able to find the back of the net at 6:40 with David Silye’s second of the year. Parker Bell and Nick Cicek picked up the assists.

The Wranglers had some life back and a few minutes later, captain Clark Bishop added another to Calgary’s side of the scoreboard with a marker at 13:03. He came out on a breakaway and Lindbom came out of the net to try and break up Bishop’s rush and left him with a pretty wide open net. Bishop’s goal was assisted by Brennan Othmann and Gavin White.
Henderson took back some momentum and zone time for the rest of the frame following this goal and by the end of 40 minutes, the Silver Knights were up 4-2. Early in the third, the Silver Knights were called for interference 43 seconds in, then for tripping at 4:20. At 8:16, the Wranglers were creeping back into comeback territory with a marker from Martin Frk at 8:16. Daniil Miromanov and Justin Kirkland picked up the assists.

Within 58 seconds of this goal, the Silver Knights took it the other way again with a goal from Alexander Holtz at 9:14. 34 seconds later, Viliam Kmec scored Henderson’s sixth of the night. Shortly after this goal, Martin Frk took a seat for slashing and at 12:04, Mitch McLain scored his third goal of the night to complete a fully power play goal sourced hat trick.
At 12:13, the frustrations of this game exploded. Alex Gallant put up a hit on a Silver Knights skater, was ejected and called for roughing, interference and a continuing altercation misconduct. This started a domino effect that escalated into a line brawl that ended in a roughing call against Dryden Hunt, and continuing altercation misconducts against Justin Kirkland, Nick Cicek and Dryden Hunt. Two Silver Knights also got tagged with the misconducts on this play.
The bench was getting short for the Wranglers and they had a five-on-three to kill off out of this scenario. At 12:55, the Silver Knights scored their eighth goal and fifth power play goal of the night to take an 8-3 lead. The Wranglers still had the rest of Gallant’s double minor to kill off after this goal and pretty much ran the clock to close out a game they’ll want to forget.
The final score was 8-3 and shots finished 44-19 for Henderson.
