Clark Bishop and the Calgary Wranglers hosted the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday for their last home series of the 2025-26 season. Bishop reached a large milestone, playing in his 500th AHL game. Bishop had an impressive three point night but the Wranglers ended up losing the lead late and fell to the Canucks 5-4.

Lineup notes

There were just a couple of changes for this game. Alex Gallant slotted out of the lineup and Brennan Othmann returned from his call-up and slotted in. The Wranglers also played with one less forward in their last game so for this game, they brought Carter King back in. For the blueliners, Xavier Bernard and Simon Mack came out and Turner Ottenbreit came back in.

Game at a glance

The goaltending match-up for this game was Arsenii Sergeev for the Wranglers and Ty Young for the Canucks. Calgary jumped on Abbotsford early then the Canucks had a run of opportunities around the five minute mark before the Wranglers took possession the other way. Around the eight minute mark, Brennan Othmann had a chance on a breakaway but was denied by Young.
At 11:31, Mr. 500 himself, Clark Bishop scored the game’s opening goal. Young mishandled the puck and Carter Wilkie picked it up to set up Bishop for his shot.
The Canucks pushed back after this goal and had a run of six shots that Sergeev stopped. The Wranglers had a few more chances of their own, then the first period finished with a 1-0 lead for the home team and Calgary just barely trailing 13-12 in shots.
In the second period, the Wranglers got the first power play chance of the game when Nils Aman was called for hooking. Martin Frk had the best look on this power play with a slap shot from the point that went off the crossbar and out. The Canucks had a partial break out of the box but Gavin White did a good job shutting this rush down before they could get a shot off.
At 4:44 however, the Canucks scored their first goal of the game with a top shelf goal from Bennett Schimek. Shortly after this goal, Abbotsford was called for another penalty when Canucks Captain Chase Wouters was called for tripping.
The first power play unit out on the ice scored with Clark Bishop’s second goal of the night. This goal came at 6:24 and was assisted by Gavin White and William Stromgren.
After this goal, the Wranglers took their first penalty of the game when Martin Frk was called for tripping at 8:04. They managed to kill this penalty off then went back on the power play at 11:31 when Cooper Walker was called for holding. At 13:05, Rory Kerins scored his fifth goal in four games since coming back from injury with a soft pass from Dryden Hunt on the doorstep for a power play goal.
About a minute and a half later, the Canucks got a goal back from Danila Klimovich. Jimmy Schuldt went for the initial shot, then the rebound snuck away from Sergeev and Klimovich buried it at 14:34. The next goal came at 18:52, when Clark Bishop set up David Silye to score Calgary’s fourth goal of the game. Brennan Othmann picked up the secondary assist.
That wrapped up the action for the second period and at the end of 40 minutes, the Wranglers had a 4-2 lead and were outshot 14-12. In the third period, the Canucks got a goal back at 4:13 with a goal from Ben Berard. Clark Bishop was tripped up on the play and demanded a call on the play after the puck crossed the net. The officials didn’t budge and can’t review a play like that in the AHL so the goal stood.
Abbotsford continued to lead the effort in the third and Calgary wasn’t able to get much zone time to get some good looks to earn some insurance scoring. At 17:14, Danila Klimovich scored the tying goal. Nick Cicek was back defending and fell into Sergeev, causing the Wranglers netminder some discomfort. Arsenii Sergeev was looked at by the training staff and stretched and shook out his leg and stayed in the game.
The frustrations of the third period continued at 19:22, when Ben Berard scored the go-ahead goal for the Canucks. Sergeev made a save off his skate blade and it popped off. He wasn’t able to get back up to make the save and Berard had a good majority of the net to shoot at.
The Wranglers had some time to strategize as Sergeev got skate repairs, then they took a timeout. At 19:42, Calgary pulled Sergeev for the extra attacker and ran out of time before they could put up another shot. Time ran out and the Wranglers ended up falling 5-4. Shots finished 42-28 for the Canucks.
