The Flames’ best fights of 2025-26: Ryan Lomberg and Tyler Tucker land signficant blows in spirited tilt

Ryan Lomberg can’t let you get close.

Standing at 5’9”, Lomberg is one of the shortest players in the National Hockey League. But despite his stature, he’s one of the toughest players in the league, and pound-for-pound one of the best fighters in the league.

The Calgary Flames will sorely miss what Lomberg bring to the lineup. Not only can he chip in on the scoresheet now and then, not only is he a leader, but Lomberg is always willing to step up for a teammate when called upon.

One of those calls came early in the season, as the Flames hosted the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 11. Three and a half minutes into the second period, the Blues iced it and Jake Neighbours and Joel Hanley collided.

On the ensuing face-off, Lomberg and Tyler Tucker squared off for the Flames’ first fight of the season. Tucker had a notable size advantage, standing at 6’1”, 204 lbs compared to Lomberg 5’9”, 184 lbs. Lomberg had to get in close, and did just that.

As they grabbed each other’s jerseys, Lomberg was able to land the first punch. Then fighting in the clinch, Lomberg landed the first notable shot that appeared to sting Tucker. After some grappling, the two players exchanged an upper cut before grappling once again. As Tucker was attempting to get Lomberg’s helmet off, Lomberg threw a left, the most significant punch of the fight.

That sparked Tucker, who was able to get Lomberg in a Muay Thai clinch and throw a few upper cuts. Thankfully, Lomberg appeared to be able to protect himself. Unfortunately, the linesman stepped in just as Lomberg got out, with the two players wrestling to the ice. Side note, credit to the lineman for protecting Tucker’s head as the two players fell.

Overall, it was a pretty good scrap. According to hockeyfights voters, Lomberg was the clear victor, earning 31 of the 49 votes. Eight voted Tucker as the winner, and 10 voted a draw. This fight earned a 5.41 rating, the third-highest rated Flames fight from this past season.

While Lomberg may have departed for the Columbus Blue Jackets, this won’t be the last time he appears in this list.
