The days of waiting in the ATM line at the Scotiabank Saddledome are over.

The Calgary Flames have announced that, beginning in the 2021–22 season, concession, retail, and 50/50 stands in the Saddledome will begin exclusively accepting contactless forms of payment.
Cash <a href="https://www.nhl.com/flames/fans/cashless?fbclid=IwAR0yjBmSOyxCW8JvAk33rj316EJgZ25JYv5Uvjmq6bZHOh8HWT9TCZm7tCY">will no longer be accepted</a> anywhere in the Saddledome.

The new policy will take effect this fall for all Saddledome events. Patrons will be able to pay using credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Saddledome gift cards.

In April 2020, a Bank of Canada spokesperson <a href="https://globalnews.ca/news/6878824/legal-for-businesses-to-refuse-cash-canada/">told Global News</a> that businesses are not obligated to accept cash — or &#8220;legal tender&#8221; — and that they have the freedom to choose which payment methods to allow.
<blockquote>“No law requires anyone to accept bank notes or any other form of payment to settle a commercial transaction,” Josianne Ménard told Global News through email.
She said the fact that bills are often described as legal tender is irrelevant.
“While the term ‘legal tender’ describes the money approved in a country for paying debts or settling commercial transactions, it does not force anyone to accept that form of payment,” Ménard explained.</blockquote>
