Notes and expectations

With the hype around Martin Pospisil and Zayne Parekh with the Wranglers this month, a storyline that has quietly been developing is the play of Dryden Hunt. Hunt is now up to 37 points in 28 games with the Wranglers, and that includes missed time for Flames call-ups. In the last month, Hunt has played 10 games in the AHL and has earned 19 points in that stretch. This includes a professional career high five points in the Wranglers’ win over Laval.
Hunt talked about the approach for this road series after winning the other night and said:
“You don’t want to change too much. You play on the road, you play a little simpler game. But the way we started tonight, hopefully we can kind of carry that into the sunset.”
That top line including Hunt, Martin Frk and Sam Morton combined for 10 points in their last game. Also buzzing in that game was Zayne Parekh. Parekh scored his first and second goals in the AHL, with his second goal making its rounds on social media and NHL highlights.
Parekh’s two weeks are up on Saturday, so he is only eligible to play in one more game with the Wranglers. He’s making a quick progression that has got to be noticed and appreciated by the powers that be at the NHL level and the young defenceman has nothing but good things to say about his experience with the Wranglers and how it’s helped him in the last weeks.
He talked about some benefits of this stint and said:
“Just getting used to the speed. Obviously it’s not NHL speed, but it’s a lot faster than junior hockey so it’s a good jump for me. It’s a step in the right direction and I’m really enjoying it. I’m having a lot of fun here and the guys have been great to me so it makes it even better.”
The Wranglers play a back to back series this weekend against the San Jose Sharks affiliate with Friday’s game getting started at 8:00 p.m. MT and Saturday’s at 7:00 p.m. MT. Streaming options are available for a fee on Flo Hockey and FlamesNation contributors Ryan Pike and I will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
