The Calgary Wranglers’ busy stretch of games continues with a series against the Abbotsford Canucks. Friday’s game will be their fifth game in seven days and they still have the weekend ahead of them. The Canucks are at the bottom of the Pacific Division and with Calgary trying to do everything in their power to keep their playoff hopes alive, they can’t afford to lose these games to a team below them.

Notes and expectations
Calgary is looking for their first win of this homestand after falling in their back to back series against the San Jose Barracuda earlier this week. Last game, they were without leading scorer Rory Kerins for over two thirds of the game and that’ll be a big loss for the team if he’s not able to return for this series. Before the game he got injured, Kerins had two points a game for four straight and was finding a lot of success with William Stromgren. Both of them were leading the way in team scoring and helping the squad find some wins on the road last week. Kerins had a lower body agitation and was able to put weight on his leg and get off the ice on his own but with how condensed this schedule is this week, it might be better to be safe than sorry with him.
On a more positive note last game, the Wranglers saw an immediate impact from Rapid City Rush call-up, Ryan Chyzowski. Chyzowski is known for his offensive abilities in the ECHL and that quick translation up to the AHL was very good to see. He talked to the media after his Wranglers debut and said:
“It felt good, just to contribute a little bit. Throw the body around a little bit and just do what I can out there.”
He continued:
“It’s a lot quicker up here, so it’s a little bit less thinking, more reaction and just kind of trusting your instincts up here.”
Whether Kerins is able to play or not in this series, Chyzowski has likely earned himself at least another game and he’ll be a good storyline to watch going into this weekend. This series starts on Friday afternoon and will wrap up on Sunday afternoon. Both games have a 1:00 p.m. MT puck drop and you can catch them in person at the Scotiabank Saddledome or stream them for a fee on Flo Hockey. FlamesNation contributors, Ryan Pike and I will have game updates on X (formerly Twitter).
