Calgary Flames assistant general manager Chris Snow passed away on Saturday following a courageous four-plus-year battle with ALS. Following Snow’s passing several figures from the hockey world provided their remembrances.
Calgary Flames general manager Craig Conroy, who worked alongside Snow in the Flames front office beginning in 2011:
“Chris was my friend. He taught us all so much by how he confronted ALS with grace, positivity, and hope. Chris never complained or ever showed us that he had a bad day, and while there may have been many, he continued to perform his job to a very high standard.”“Through his journey Chris became a true inspiration for all who knew him and an incredible advocate for everyone affected by ALS. He fought with courage and determination for every day he had with Kelsie, Cohen and Willa, making countless memories with them over these past five years.”“We will never replace a person like Chris; we simply pay tribute to him by moving forward with the same passion that he brought to his life each day.”
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving, who worked alongside Snow from 2014-23 and promoted Snow to assistant general manager in 2019:
“I am devastated with the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Chris Snow. ‘Snowy’ was a true example of strength, courage, grit and compassion. Beyond being an exceptional colleague, he was a cherished friend who deeply impacted our lives. His intellect was matched only by his incredible kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering love and devotion to his family and friends.”“Chris inspired us all as he faced the relentless battle with ALS head-on, refusing to let it define him or derail his spirit.”“On behalf of my family and the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, we send our thoughts and prayers to his beloved wife Kelsie, his son Cohen, and his daughter Willa during this unimaginably difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing Chris’s legacy of love and strength will endure forever.”
Former Calgary Flames general manager Jay Feaster, who hired Snow into the Flames’ front office initially in 2011, provided FlamesNation with this statement:
“Chris Snow was a tremendous addition to the Flames’ front office and he single-handedly launched the Club’s first foray into analytics and the use of advanced statistics. His enthusiasm and upbeat personality enabled him to win over old school die-hards and players alike. He was a trusted and valuable front office resource, and the Flames were fortunate to have him. What I respected even more about Chris was the person he was, the husband, father, and friend to so many. His courageous battle against the debilitating effects of ALS inspired countless people in the U.S. and Canada, and his commitment to receiving experimental treatment for the disease will lead to scientific breakthroughs that will positively impact others for generations. He will be missed. God rest his soul in peace, and God Bless his family.”
“The National Hockey League family is deeply saddened by the passing of Calgary Flames Assistant General Manager Chris Snow, a remarkable man whose courageous and relentless battle with ALS has been an inspiration to so many.“An innovative student of our game with an expertise in data analysis, Chris supervised the creation and build out of the Flames’ analytics department and was influential in all facets of the Club’s Hockey Operations decision-making. First and foremost, however, he was a beloved husband to Kelsie, a devoted dad to Cohen and Willa, and a friend to everyone in hockey fortunate enough to have met him.“The Snows’ willingness to share the trials and triumphs of Chris’s lengthy ALS journey has inspired so many and profoundly increased awareness of the need to find a cure for this debilitating disease. The NHL sends its most sincere condolences to the Snow family, the Calgary Flames organization and all who were touched by this special person.”
