Calgary Flames forward Trevor Lewis scored an incredible goal early in the second period of Wednesday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
After taking a pass from MacKenzie Weegar at the Flames’ blue line, Lewis danced through the Canucks’ defence with apparent ease. The veteran forward then sent a low shot toward the net that Canucks goaltender Spencer Martin turned aside.
Staying with the play, Lewis found the puck at the side of the net and banked it in off Martin’s glove to put the Flames up 3–2. Weegar and Jacob Markstrom picked up the assists on Lewis’ sixth goal of the season.
Lewis, 35, has six goals and nine points in 30 games with the Flames this season. He had six goals in 80 games with the team through the entire 2021–22 campaign.
The Flames re-signed Lewis to a one-year, $800,000 contract back on July 13. The two-time Stanley Cup champion (2012, 2014) is one of nine players to appear in every game with the Flames so far this year.
The Los Angeles Kings originally selected Lewis in the first round (No. 17 overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft. Lewis debuted with the Kings during the 2008–09 season and remained with the team until 2020.
After one season with the Winnipeg Jets, Lewis signed with the Flames in 2021. The 840-game NHL veteran is currently playing in his 15th National Hockey League season.
The Flames and Canucks are currently tied at three late in the second period. Andrew Mangiapane and Mikael Backlund have also scored for Calgary; Sheldon Dries, Conor Garland, and Bo Horvat have tallied for Vancouver.
