Calgary Flames winger @Johnny Gaudreau notched his 500th career point with an assist on @Elias Lindholm’s overtime goal against the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon.
The goal sealed a 4-3 Flames win and completed a hat trick for Lindholm, who also scored the team’s second and third goals in the game. Goaltender Dan Vladar picked up his first NHL point with the secondary assist on the goal.
After Lindholm received an outlet pass from Vladar in the neutral zone, he and Gaudreau played catch with the puck across the blue line. Gaudreau found Lindholm streaking to the Capitals’ net with a perfect pass, allowing the Swedish centre to deflect the puck past @Ilya Samsonov for the winner.
Here’s the video of the goal, courtesy Sportsnet on Twitter:
With the overtime winner, Lindholm now sits atop the NHL leaderboard with six goals in just four games. Los Angeles Kings centre @Anze Kopitar also has six goals in four contests; Edmonton Oilers forward @Connor McDavid has six in five.
In addition to his first NHL point, Vladar picked up his first win as a Flame in Saturday’s game. Vladar stopped 22 of the 25 shots he faced against the Capitals.
@Andrew Mangiapane also scored for the Flames in the 4-3 win. Gaudreau assisted on two of Lindholm’s three goals for his 499th and 500th NHL points.
The Flames have a 2-1-1 record to start the 2021–22 season. They’ll be back in action on Oct. 25 to take on the New York Rangers.
