Calgary Flames winger @Andrew Mangiapane scored an absurd goal late in the first period of his team’s game against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
After breaking into the Canadiens’ zone alongside new linemates @Sean Monahan and @Blake Coleman, Mangiapane received a pass from Monahan with his skate and kicked it up to his stick before roofing the puck past Habs goaltender @Jake Allen.
Did we mention Mangiapane did all that with one knee on the ice? See it for yourself. Here’s the video of the goal, as posted to Twitter by the NHL’s official account:
Coleman picked up the secondary assist on Mangiapane’s team-leading ninth goal of the season (and second in as many games). With the goal, Mangiapane tied @Kyle Connor for the league lead in 2021–22 with nine goals at 5-on-5.
Monahan recorded the primary assist on Mangiapane’s goal for his first 5-on-5 point of the season. He now has six points (two goals, four assists) in 13 games this year.
Calgary currently leads Montreal by a 2-1 score after 20 minutes of play. @Mikael Backlund opened the scoring for the Flames just 2:02 into the first period; @Ben Chiarot responded for the Canadiens at the 9:26 mark.
