Calgary Flames winger @Matthew Tkachuk scored less than a minute into Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, although the goal was less of a highlight than the pass that earned @Johnny Gaudreau the primary assist.
After the Jets won a faceoff to @Connor Hellebuyck’s left, defenceman @Brenden Dillon attempted to ring the puck around the back boards to one of his teammates.
Instead, the puck found its way right onto Gaudreau’s stick. The 28-year-old winger quickly spun and fired a pass toward the front of Hellebuyck’s net … right where @Matthew Tkachuk was waiting to deflect the puck past the Winnipeg goaltender.
Gaudreau picked up the lone assist on Tkachuk’s 10th goal of the season, which came just 26 seconds into the first period. Here’s the video of the play, as posted to Twitter by the official Calgary Flames account:
The Flames and Jets are currently tied 2–2 during the second period of Saturday’s game. @Elias Lindholm also has a goal for Calgary; @Paul Stastny and @Kyle Connor have scored for Winnipeg.
