Week 2 of the 2025-26 National Hockey League season is in the books.
Every Wednesday, we take a look a look at how teams in the Pacific Division did the week before. This past week, a handful of Canadian teams in the Pacific Division had an Eastern Conference road trip, while two teams are stuck on two points.
Let’s take a look at the week that was.
Anaheim Ducks
After starting their season 2-1-0, the Ducks had another solid week, falling 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes on home ice, falling 2-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime, before defeating the Nashville Predators 5-2 on Tuesday for a 1-1-1 week.
The Ducks continue their road trip, going from the Central Division to the Atlantic Division, as they’ll play the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers on the road this coming week.
Calgary Flames
Last season, the Calgary Flames exceeded expectations. This season, they’re right toward the bottom of the standings. In fact, their 1-6-0 record puts them dead last in the league. Entering this week, the Flames were 1-3-0 to start their season, but losses to the Utah Mammoth, Vegas Golden Knights, and Winnipeg Jets is quickly turning this season into a rebuilding year. It doesn’t help that they’ve only scored 11 goals.
It’s another busy week for the Flames. On Wednesday, they host the 5-2 Montréal Canadiens, before facing the Jets on the road. They’ll then return home to host the New York Rangers before beginning an Eastern Conference road trip, with their first match-up against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Edmonton Oilers
Death, taxes, and the Edmonton Oilers forgetting how to play hockey to begin the season. They actually were off to a solid season when we looked at them in the last article, as they had a 2-0-1 record. Well, a three-game losing streak has them playing .500 hockey this season, as they fell 4-2 to the New York Islanders, 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils, and 4-2 to the Detroit Red Wings. They got back in the win column on Tuesday with a 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators.
Like the Flames, the Oilers have a busy upcoming week. They’ll face the Canadiens on Thursday, followed by a Pacific coast road trip on the weekend, facing the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks. To end the week, they’ll host the Utah Mammoth.
Los Angeles Kings
It’s been a tough start to the year for the Los Angeles Kings. After week one, they were 1-2-1, and followed that up with a 1-1-1 week. They fell 4-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, lost 4-3 in overtime to the Carolina Hurricanes, and defeated the St. Louis Blues 2-1 in overtime. Of their seven games this season, four have gone past regulation.
This coming week will be a fairly simple one for the Kings. Their tough game is a road game against the Dallas Stars, before they continue that road trip with stops in Nashville, Chicago, and San Jose. The Predators, Blackhawks, and Sharks finished 30th, 31st, and 32nd in the league last season.
San Jose Sharks
For the fourth consecutive season, the San Jose Sharks have started the season with a notable losing streak, going 0-4-2 to start the season. Last week, they fell 6-3 to the Utah Mammoth, 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and 4-3 to the New York Islanders. To start the 2024-25 season, the Sharks began the season 0-7-2, and the year before that, they started the year 0-10-1, so there’s improvement.
They’ll continue their Eastern Conference road trip, facing the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils in back-to-back nights, then finishing the road trip against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Their final game of the week is a game against the Los Angeles Kings, which has a start time of 9:00 PM MT (that’s 11:00 PM for me). I don’t think I’ve seen that, but that’s chaotic Sharks hockey for you.
Seattle Kraken
The Seattle Kraken had a solid first week to the season, going 2-0-1. Well, this past week was the opposite, as they finished 1-2-1 to bring their season record to 3-2-2. They fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Ottawa Senators, defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 in overtime, before back-to-back regulation losses to the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.
Their schedule doesn’t get any easier this week. On Thursday, they conclude a six-game road trip with a matchup against the reigning Presidents’ Trophy winners, the Winnipeg Jets. After that, they host the Edmonton Oilers and Montréal Canadiens.
Vancouver Canucks
After a 1-2-0 start, the Vancouver Cancuks rebounded with a strong week on a tough schedule. They defeated the Dallas Stars 5-3, followed by a 3-2 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks and a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals. In their most recent game, they fell 5-1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
On Thursday, they’ll conclude their road trip with a matchup against the Nashville Predators. Starting Saturday, they begin a three-game home stand, hosting the Montréal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, and New York Rangers.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights are off to a strong start to their season, as their 5-0-2 record is tied for the top of the league. Last week, they defeated the Boston Bruins 6-5, the Calgary Flames 6-1, and the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1. It’s not all good news, as captain Mark Stone will be out for a bit, as will starting netminder Adin Hill.
This coming week will be a test for the Golden Knights, as they begin a three-game Eastern Conference road trip. On Saturday, they’ll face the Florida Panthers in a rematch of the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals. The following day, the Golden Knights play the Lightning, followed by the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Funnily enough, the Golden Knights play three consecutive games against teams named after natural disasters, as they’ll play the Colorado Avalanche on Halloween.
