What’s Going On In the Pacific Division: Four points separate six teams

Nov 20, 2025, 15:00 ESTUpdated: Nov 20, 2025, 14:28 EST
Only four points separate six teams in the Pacific Division.
The Anaheim Ducks are in the driver’s seat to finish first in the Pacific Division one quarter through the season, and the Calgary Flames are last in the league, but the other positions in the division are up for grabs.
This is What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, the weekly article where we look at how teams from the division fared, as well as setting up the following week. Let’s take a look at the week that was.
Anaheim Ducks
A quarter of the way through the season, and the Anaheim Ducks are first in the Pacific Division. Who saw that coming? They actually lost their first two games this week, falling 6-3 to the Detroit Red Wings and 2-0 to the Minnesota Wild, before returning home and defeating the Utah Mammoth 3-2 in overtime to snap a three-game losing streak and the Boston Bruins 4-3.
The Ducks’ game against the Mammoth kick-started a six-game home stand, and they continue it with a match-up against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. They’ll host the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday and the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames may be last in the league, but they just had their best week yet. They defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-0 on Thursday, before falling 4-3 to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. They had a brief two-game road trip, losing 5-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks before defeating the Buffalo Sabres 6-2.
On Saturday, the Flames return home briefly to host the Dallas Stars. On the following day, they’ll start a five-game road trip, beginning in Vancouver. They’ll then head east to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning next Wednesday.
Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers aren’t climbing out of their early-season hole like they had the past two years, which throws my predictions out the window. They fell 5-4 to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime, fell 5-1 to the Buffalo Sabres, and then fell 7-4 to the Washington Capitals in a game they realistically should’ve won. At the quarter mark of the season, they are 9-9-4, and the issues run very deep.
Their schedule doesn’t get any easier over the coming week. After losing to the Capitals on Wednesday, they’ll head south to play the Tampa Bay Lightning. They’ll remain in Florida and take on the Panthers on Saturday, before returning home to host the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.
Los Angeles Kings
It has been a successful road trip for the Los Angeles Kings. After beginning it with a pair of wins, the Kings were able to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 4-3 in overtime. On Saturday, they beat the Ottawa Senators 1-0, which is a massive difference from their 8-7 overtime loss in Ottawa last season, a game I wanted to go to. Their four-game win streak came to an end on Monday with a 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.
They have one more game on the road trip, a match-up with the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. On Friday, they return home to host the Boston Bruins, before the Senators roll into town on Monday.
San Jose Sharks
In last week’s article, we looked at how the San Jose Sharks were above .500 for the first time since 2021-22 (when not including overtime losses as losses). They still have one more win than regulation losses, as they fell 2-0 to the Calgary Flames and 4-1 to the Seattle Kraken, but returned home and defeated the Utah Mammoth to move their record to 9-8-3.
The Sharks will play three games at home and one on the road this week. They’ll host the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, and the Boston Bruins on Sunday, before travelling to Denver to take on the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
Seattle Kraken
Speaking of the Seattle Kraken, they had a solid week. On Thursday, they defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-3, then beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Saturday, before falling 4-2 to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday to give them a 9-5-5 record.
They’ll continue their four-game road trip with a stop in Chicago to face the Blackhawks on Thursday, then they head out east to face the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday and the New York Islanders on Sunday. On Wednesday, the Kraken return home to host the Dallas Stars.
Vancouver Canucks
The only team with fewer points than the Vancouver Canucks in the Pacific Division are the Flames. This past week, the Canucks fell 4-3 in overtime to the Carolina Hurricanes, defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, but fell 8-5 to the Florida Panthers on Monday.
On Thursday, the Canucks return home to host the Dallas Stars, before welcoming the Flames on Sunday. They’ll begin a four-game road trip afterwards, with their first stop in Anaheim to face the Ducks.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights didn’t have a bad week by any means, finishing 2-0-2 to remain second in the Pacific Division in points. They fell 4-3 in overtime to the New York Islanders, defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-1, fell 3-2 in overtime to the Minnesota Wild, and won 3-2 against the New York Rangers.
This week, they’ll head on the road for three games, facing the Utah Mammoth on Thursday, the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, and the Mammoth again on Monday. They’ll welcome the Ottawa Senators to Sin City on Wednesday.
