In just nine days, the 2025-26 National Hockey League will come to an end.
At this point, most teams know whether or not they’ll be in the playoffs, but a few spots are still up for grabs. One of the biggest questions around the NHL is which team will finish first in the Pacific Division, as the spot is up for grabs.
This is What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, the weekly article where we look at how teams from the division fared, as well as setting up what’s next for all eight teams.

Anaheim Ducks

It looked as if the Anaheim Ducks were going to run away with the Pacific Division. However, a six-game losing streak now has them third in the division. The good news for the Ducks is that they sit just one point out of the division lead with four games left.
This past week, they fell 6-2 to the St. Louis Blues, 5-3 to the Calgary Flames, and 5-0 to the Nashville Predators. All three of these losses were at home, and their next two are in Anaheim. On Thursday, they’ll play the San Jose Sharks, followed by the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. Their final two games are on the road, playing the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday and the Predators on Thursday.

Calgary Flames

It’s going to be a busy final week for the Calgary Flames, as they look to secure a bottom-third spot in the league. Their 73 points are the third-fewest points in the league, three ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks. Last week, they fell 6-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights, defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-3, and fell 4-3 in overtime to the Dallas Stars.
This week, the Flames play two more road games, facing the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday and the Seattle Kraken on Saturday. Then, they return home to face the Utah Mammoth on Sunday, the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, and the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

Edmonton Oilers

Another team in the hunt to finish first in the Pacific Division. With a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday (and an Anaheim Ducks loss the following day), the Oilers took control of the Pacific Division. They fell 5-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights to allow them back into the race, and blew three leads in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Utah Mammoth. Right now, they have 88 points, tied with the Golden Knights, but with the tiebreaker.
They’ll play the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday on the road, followed by another road game against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Their final two games will see the Oilers host the Colorado Avalanche on Monday and the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

Los Angeles Kings

Speaking of the Los Angeles Kings, they had an overtime-filled week, breaking the all-time record for most games that went to overtime. They fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Nashville Predators on Thursday, defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-6 in overtime on Saturday, then beat the Predators 3-2 in a shootout Monday.
Those games against the Predators are important, as that’s the team they’re tracking down for the final wild card spot. Right now, the Kings have 83 points, one fewer than the Predators, but with a game in hand. This week, they’ll host the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday and the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, before hitting the road to play the Seattle Kraken (Monday), the Canucks (Tuesday), and the Calgary Flames (Thursday).

San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks got back in the win column in April. Following a 4-3 win against the Anaheim Ducks last Wednesday, the Sharks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Thursday, fell 6-3 to the Nashville Predators on Saturday, then beat the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 3-2 on Monday.
They sit two games out of the final wild card spot, but have two games in hand over the Predators. This week, they’ll play six games this week, hosting the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, playing the Ducks on the road the following day, returning home to host the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, before a three-game road trip. They’ll play the Predators on Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, and the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.

Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken are all but eliminated from post-season contention as they’re 1-7-2 in their last 10. That includes a five-game losing streak, which saw a 6-2 loss to the Utah Mammoth, a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, a 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, and a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
They can still play spoiler though. They’ll host the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, the Calgary Flames on Saturday, and the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. After that, they’ll hit the road to play the Golden Knights again, before finishing their season in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks are also playing spoiler after a tough season. This past week, they fell 5-2 to the Minnesota Wild, 7-4 to the Utah Mammoth, and 2-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Canucks will have the best odds to land the first overall pick in the upcoming lottery.
This week, they’ll face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, and the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, all on the road. They’ll make a quick stop in L.A. to host the Kings on Tuesday, before finishing their season on the road against the Edmonton Oilers.

Vegas Golden Knights

It appears as if the Vegas Golden Knights have benefited from the coaching change. This past week, they defeated the Calgary Flames by a score of 6-3, then defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 and the Vancouver Canucks 2-1. As it stands, the Golden Knights are tied for first in the Pacific Division with 88 points, albeit with two fewer regulation wins than the Oilers.
This week, they’ll continue their road trip, taking on the Seattle Kraken on Thursday and the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. The Knights return home to host the Winnipeg Jets on Monday and the Kraken on Wednesday.
