In 35 days, the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season will be over.
With five weeks left in the season, the Pacific Division crown is up for grabs, as the Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Edmonton Oilers all have a realistic shot of earning home ice through the first two rounds of the post-season.
This is What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, the weekly article where we look at how teams from the division fared, as well as setting up what’s next for all eight teams. We’ll also take a quick look at what each of the eight teams did ahead of the trade deadline.
Anaheim Ducks
Last week was a mixed bag for the Anaheim Ducks, as they went 2-2-0. They defeated Montréal Canadiens 6-5 in a shootout, fell 4-0 to the St. Louis Blues, beat the surging Winnipeg Jets 4-1, but blew a lead to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Still, they sit first in the Pacific Division with a 36-26-3 record with 75 points.
They also have a game in hand over both the Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers, with three games this coming week. The Ducks play two more games on this road trip, facing the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, then the Canadiens again on Sunday. To wrap up the week, they’ll host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.
Calgary Flames
The tank may fully be on since the trade deadline, but the Calgary Flames finished with the same record as the Ducks. On Saturday, the Flames defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4, but lost both games of a back-to-back, falling 7-3 to the Washington Capitals and 4-0 to the New York Rangers. Still out east, they played an entertaining game on Thursday, defeating Jakob Markström and the New Jersey Devils 5-4. More losses, please.
Like the Ducks, the Flames have three games this week consisting of two road games, then a home game. They face the New York Islanders on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. MT, then the Detroit Red Wings on Monday at 5:00 p.m. MT on Prime. Wednesday will see the Flames host the St. Louis Blues.
Edmonton Oilers
It’s two steps forward, one step backward for the Edmonton Oilers. The day following the trade deadline, they fell 6-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes. They then picked up two huge wins, one against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday by a score of 4-2, then a 4-3 regulation victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday (with the help of the officials). The step back? Well, they were blown out 7-2 to the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
They get right back on it, finishing their road trip with a matchup against the St. Louis Blues on Friday. On Sunday, they return home to host the Nashville Predators, then host the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday for the second of a four-game home stand.
Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings are in a battle for the final wild card spot. They didn’t gain any traction last week, as they fell 4-3 to the Montréal Canadiens, beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 in overtime, but fell 2-1 in overtime to the Boston Bruins on the second game of a back-to-back.
Entering Friday, they sit just one point back of the San Jose Sharks for the final wild card spot, albeit with an additional game played. They’re also on an Eastern Conference road trip, facing the New York Islanders on Friday, the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, and the New York Rangers on Monday.
San Jose Sharks
Speaking of the San Jose Sharks, they are also in the midst of an Eastern Conference road trip. But before they departed, they fell 3-2 in overtime to the St. Louis Blues and 2-1 in overtime to the New York Islanders. The losing continued on Tuesday with a 6-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, but got back in the win column on Thursday with a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins.
Next up for the Sharks, they’ll play the Montréal Canadiens on Saturday, followed by a short drive west along highway 20/417 to face the Ottawa Senators. They wrap up the road trip out west, taking on the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
Seattle Kraken
It was a rough week for the Seattle Kraken. Last Wednesday, they fell 3-2 to the St. Louis Blues, but that losing continued with a 7-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, a 4-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, and a 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Like the Kings, the Kraken sit one point out of a playoff spot, but they are 3-7-0 in their last 10 games. Right now, that final wild card spot is up for grabs, with the Predators also being involved.
This week, the Kraken travel north to face the Vancouver Canucks on the road, before returning home to host the Florida Panthers on Sunday and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks actually had a solid week, which is good news for the Calgary Flames. On Friday, they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-3, then lost 3-2 in overtime to the Winnipeg Jets. Their lone regulation loss was a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Ottawa Senators, but they responded with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Nashville Predators. The Flames sit second-last in points in the NHL with 59, which is 11 more than what the Canucks have.
This week, the Canucks host the Seattle Kraken on Saturday and the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.
Vegas Golden Knights
Lastly, it wasn’t a great week for the Vegas Golden Knights, which is good news for the Calgary Flames. They dropped a pair of 4-2 decisions, one to the Minnesota Wild and the other to the Edmonton Oilers. On Tuesday, they fell 2-1 to the Dallas Stars, but got back in the win column with a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.
It’s a light schedule for the Golden Knights this week, hosting the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday and the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Right now, they sit second in the Pacific Division with 74 points, which is 15th in the league. The Flames have their 2026 unprotected first, meaning that the further they drop, the better that pick will be.
