It was a busy Week 3 in the National Hockey League.
As it stands, all but two teams in the Pacific Division have a realistic chance of staying in the post-season hunt, while the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks are looking like contenders to land Gavin McKenna.
Let’s take a look at the week that was.

Anaheim Ducks

It was a good week for the Anaheim Ducks, as they went 2-1-0 against solid competition. First up was a 7-5 barn-burning win against the Boston Bruins, before losing 4-3 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Their last game of the week saw them defeat the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, 3-2 in a shootout.
That concluded a five-game road trip. They’ll return home to host the Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, and Panthers this week, another tough schedule, as both the Red Wings and Devils have started the season off well.

Calgary Flames

The good news is that the Calgary Flames have won their second game this season. However, their five points this season are the fewest in the league. It was a busy week for the Flames, as they fell 2-1 in overtime to the Montréal Canadiens, then lost 5-3 to the Winnipeg Jets. Their second win of the season was a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers, but they lost 4-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Beginning against the Maple Leafs, the Flames are in the midst of a four-game road trip. On Thursday, they’ll take on the Ottawa Senators, before facing off against the Nashville Predators on Saturday and the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.

Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers’ early-season struggles in October have continued. It wasn’t a bad week for the Flames’ rival, as they defeated the Canadiens 6-5 and the Utah Mammoth 6-3, but they fell 3-2 to the Seattle Kraken and 4-3 in overtime to the Vancouver Canucks, games they should have won.
It’s another busy week for the Oilers. They’ll host the Rangers on Thursday and the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, before hitting the road to face the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars on a back-to-back.

Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings had a strong week. They defeated the Dallas Stars 3-2 in overtime, fell 5-4 to the Nashville Predators in a shootout, but rebounded with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks and 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks.
They’ll return to L.A. this week to host the Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, and Winnipeg Jets.

San Jose Sharks

Three things are certain in life: death, taxes, and the San Jose Sharks playing some chaotic hockey. They won two separate 6-5 games in overtime this week, one against the Rangers and the other against the Minnesota Wild. They also fell 3-1 to the Devils and 4-3 to the Kings for a 2-2-0 week.
This week, they play host to the Devils, Colorado Avalanche, and Red Wings. They’re the only team around the Flames in terms of standings, as the Sharks have just six points this season, with their two wins coming last week.

Seattle Kraken

Like a few other teams in the Pacific Division, the Seattle Kraken had a strong week. They shut out the Winnipeg Jets 3-0, defeated the Oilers 3-2, and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Canadiens for a 2-0-1 week.
Also, like a few other Pacific Division teams, this week will be spent at home for the Kraken. They’ll host the Rangers on Saturday and the Blackhawks on Monday. Their 5-2-3 record gives them 13 points, second in the division.

Vancouver Canucks

This past week was a busy one for the Vancouver Canucks, and it didn’t go so well. They fell 2-1 to the Predators, 4-3 to the Canadiens, and 2-0 to the Rangers, with their lone win coming against the Oilers in overtime, a game in which they blew a two-goal lead in the third period.
The Canucks will hit the road this week for three Central Division matchups, taking on the Blues, Wild, and Predators.

Vegas Golden Knights

Lastly, it was an okay week for the Vegas Golden Knights. They fell 3-0 to the Panthers, fell 2-1 in overtime to the Lightning, before defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3. Their loss to the Panthers was their first regulation loss of the season.
Like the Kraken, it’ll be a quiet week for the Golden Knights, as they play host to the Avalanche on Friday and the Red Wings on Tuesday. As it stands, their 6-1-3 record gives them 15 points, the best record in the Pacific Division.
