How do the Pacific Division standings look with under a week left before the 4 Nations Face-Off?
The Edmonton Oilers maintain the top spot in the division as they have a 33-16-4 record with 70 points. Not far behind are the Vegas Golden Knights, who have a 31-17-6 record with 68 points and one additional game played.
Up for grabs is third place in the Pacific Division. Currently, the Los Angeles Kings occupy the spot thanks to a 27-17-6 record with 60 points in 50 games. Both the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks have 59 points, but the Flames have the tiebreaker over the Canucks due to more wins.
Both the Anaheim Ducks and Seattle Kraken have been competitive. The former has a 23-24-6 record with 52 points, while the latter has a 23-28-4 record. Both are well out of the postseason race though. Last not just in the Pacific Division, but in the league are the San Jose Sharks who have a 15-34-6 record with 36 points.
Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks had a solid week, losing their first game 4-1 to the Calgary Flames, before defeating the Montréal Canadiens and Dallas Stars to end the week.
Troy Terry’s 39 points lead the team while his 16 goals are tied for the team lead alongside Frank Vatrano. Mason McTavish has 13 goals and 27 points while Alexander Killorn has 11 goals and 24 points. Between the pipes, John Gibson has a .915 save percentage and a 2.65 goals against average in 23 games, and Lukáš Dostál has a .908 save percentage and a 2.93 goals against average.
The Ducks have just one more game remaining before the 4 Nations Face-Off break, heading down the road to face the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames had an okay week, going 2-2-0 with wins against the Anaheim Ducks and Seattle Kraken while losing the surging Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. They won the games they needed to occupy a postseason spot.
Jonathan Huberdeau is back, as he leads the team with 20 goals and 39 points. Nazem Kadri isn’t far behind, as he has 18 goals and 38 points while Matt Coronato has 14 goals and 29 points. Blake Coleman (12 goals) and MacKenzie Weegar (six goals) also have 29 points, while Connor Zary, Mikael Backlund, and Yegor Sharangovich have double-digit goals. In net, Dustin Wolf has a .914 save percentage and a 2.58 goals against average in 31 games played.
The Flames have two more games before the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday and the Kraken on Saturday.
Edmonton Oilers
It’s been a mediocre few weeks for the Edmonton Oilers, losing 3-2 in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings and 4-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. They needed a goal with their net empty to send Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues to overtime before snapping their two-game losing streak.
Leon Draisaitl has kept up his pace, leading league scoring with 37 goals on top of 79 points, just one behind Nathan MacKinnon for the league-lead. Connor McDavid has 22 goals and 70 points, defenceman Evan Bouchard has nine goals and 42 points, and Zach Hyman has 18 goals and 31 points. In net, Stuart Skinner has a .902 save percentage and a 2.68 goals against average in 36 games played.
This week, the Oilers face the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday in the second game of a back-to-back before returning home to host the Colorado Avalanche on Friday before the break.
Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings didn’t have a great week, falling 3-0 to both the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning before defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2.
Adrian Kempe continues to lead the team in both goals (24) and points (44), with Anže Kopitar not far behind with 42 points. Kevin Fiala has 18 goals, Alex Laferriere still has 13 goals, Quinton Byfield has 11 goals, and Warren Fogele has 12 goals. In net, Darcy Kuemper has a .921 save percentage and a 2.12 goals against average.
The Kings are the busiest team in the Pacific Division this week, hosting the Montréal Canadiens on Wednesday, before playing a back-to-back at home against the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks before the 4 Nations Face-Off.
San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks didn’t have a busy week, playing two games, losing both games – one against the Seattle Kraken and one against the Montréal Canadiens.
The big news this week is they traded their leading point-getter, Mikael Granlund, to the Dallas Stars. Now leading the team in points is Macklin Celebrini who has 17 goals and 39 points. William Eklund isn’t far behind with 10 goals and 38 points. Former Calgary Flame Tyler Toffoli has 19 goals and 34 points, while Fabian Zetterlund has 14 goals and 32 points. The crease is a disaster as Vítek Vaněček has a .885 save percentage and a 3.84 goals against average while Alexandar Georgiev has an .875 save percentage and a 4.01 goals against average.
This week, the Sharks host the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday and the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
Seattle Kraken
The Seattle Kraken started their week well, defeating the San Jose Sharks 6-2 before falling 3-2 to the Calgary Flames and 5-4 in a shootout to the Detroit Red Wings.
Jared McCann leads the team with 42 points but Jaden Schwartz’s 18 goals lead the team. On top of those two players, the Kraken has double-digit goals from Chandler Stephenson, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Matty Beniers, Shane Wright, Brandon Montour, Eeli Tolvanen, and Vince Dunn. In net, Joey Daccord has a .916 save percentage and a 2.46 goals against average.
This week, the Kraken host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday before heading to Calgary to face the Flames on Saturday before the break.
Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks picked up points in three of their four games this week, defeating the Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche, falling in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings, and falling 5-3 to the Dallas Stars. However, the big news from this week was the two trades they made, including moving J.T. Miller.
They’ve also been without leading point-getter Quinn Hughes (14 goals, 59 points) as he’s dealing with some sort of injury. Leading the team in goals is Jake DeBrusk with 19. Brock Boeser is hot on his trail with 17 goals, with the Canucks having a whole whack of double-digit goal scorers like Conor Garland, Elias Pettersson, Pius Suter, and Kiefer Sherwood. In net, Kevin Lankinen has a .904 save percentage and a 2.57 goals against average while Thatcher Demko has an .882 save percentage and a 3.03 goals against average.
This week, the Canucks head to the Bay Area to face the San Jose Sharks, before returning home and hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights have been faltering lately, which is bad news as it’s allowed the Oilers to take the lead in the Pacific Division. Last week, they fell 2-1 in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets before falling 4-2 to the New York Rangers and 2-1 to the New York Islanders. They are on a four-game losing streak and are 3-8-3 in their last 14.
Jack Eichel has 18 goals and 66 points, leading the team in the latter category. Pavel Dorofeyev’s 22 goals lead the team while Tomáš Hertl has 20 goals and 41 points. Mark Stone also has double-digit goals, so too do Ivan Barbashev, Brett Howden, Keegan Kolesar, and Victor Olofsson. In net, Adin Hill has a .900 save percentage and a 2.69 goals against average in 33 games played.
This week, the Golden Knights continue their Eastern Conference road trip, facing the New Jersey Devils on Thursday and the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
