The Moncton Wildcats announced on social media in early February that the 2024-25 championship rings were ready and being sent out to their players. For former Wildcat and current Wranglers defenceman Etienne Morin, he was able to make the trip to receive his in person. Lucky for him, this event lined up perfectly over the AHL All-Star break in the second week of February. It wasn’t quite enough time for him to catch a game and see this year’s team play, however, but Morin would definitely like to catch a few games if Moncton makes another lengthy playoff run this season.
Morin talked about this trip and said:
“I actually went to Moncton. They invited me out so I did get mine. It’s really big. Really beautiful. It’s honestly awesome.”
Morin continued:
“We had a banquet. Our old coach, (well he’s still there) Gardiner MacDougall, he brought it. He actually brought the whole team of this year to just make them have a taste of what it feels like to win. It was just pretty awesome to see my old teammates and stuff like that. I was with some of them for 4 years. So it was just great to be back and seeing the coaches and the staff and everybody again.”
No detail was missed in the overall presentation of the ring and it holds a lot of meaning for the players who won the Gilles-Corteau Trophy on May 19, 2025, in a 3-2 victory over the Rimouski Oceanic. Morin had 20 points in the 19 playoff games the Wildcats played, consisting of two goals and 18 assists.
When Morin talked about the look of the ring, he said,:
“Robert Irving, the owner, takes good care of us. So it was in, like a nice box with a little light, and then had our name, the logo, number, season, and like I said, the ring was awesome. Just everything on it, like the logos. Our rink is called the Avenir Centre, it’s on there. He posted our record for the season. The teams we beat inside the ring, it’s just so big.”
As far as where the ring currently is, Etienne gave it back to his family for safe keeping. Morin mentioned a special spot where his hockey memorabilia stays, including things like his first professional goal puck with the Rapid City Rush earlier this year and his first Wranglers goal puck from back in mid-December.
He said:
“My mom put it somewhere safe. I don’t know where, but I gave it to her, but yeah, it’s definitely, is definitely gonna be around me for a while.”
Many of the guys Morin played with last season are still on that team, but he hasn’t crossed paths in the AHL with others who took the next step.
He said:
“So, I think there is one guy that’s in the AHL, but we haven’t played against them. He’s playing with the Thunderbirds. Juraj Pekarcik. Except that, I think one of them is in the east coast, a d-man, I played with as my partner too. Except that, I don’t think so, not yet. Well, Desnoyers (Caleb Desnoyers) is gonna be there soon. I’m sure, maybe in the NHL even.”
Etienne Morin was an alternate captain for the Moncton Wildcats in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons and had an incredible career in the QMJHL. He’s shown a lot of growth in his first professional season with the Calgary Wranglers and has six points in 32 games with the Flames’ AHL affiliate and three points in seven games with the ECHL affiliate, the Rapid City Rush.
