The Calgary Wranglers enter the weekend hosting the Abbotsford Canucks after playing a midweek series against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Their first game was a great showing with a 3-0 win. The second spiralled from the first five minutes and they fell 7-4. Calgary only had a day between series, so the adjustments will need to be quick for this back-to-back.

Notes and expectations

This series could be a bit interesting on the goaltending side of things. Owen Say had a very hot and cold week, earning a shutout on Tuesday, then getting pulled in the first 15 minutes of game two on Thursday. With that Thursday game still being pretty fresh, it might be best for Connor Murphy to start the front end of this Abbotsford series and go from there based on the results.
There will be at least one lineup adjustment as Dryden Hunt was recalled back to the Flames on Friday morning. Getting Hunt into a game was good for him and the Wranglers, and also bought the Flames some time as he was creeping up on requiring waivers again if he were to be assigned to the AHL. Hunt had two points on Thursday and this move will likely bring Matvei Gridin back up to the top line.
On the other end of the ice, the Abbotsford Canucks continue to struggle. They went from winning the Calder Cup last season to being prodded for reinforcements for the NHL club this season. They are still without some of their core guys and have gone 2-6-1-1 in their last 10 games. However, that didn’t seem to be a huge factor around the Wranglers as they split last series and both games were only decided by a single goal with one of them being decided in a shootout.
The first game of this series will be on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. MT and the second will be on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. MT. Tickets are available for both games and you can stream them for a fee on Flo Hockey. FlamesNation contributors Ryan Pike and I will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
