Through 15 games, the Calgary Flames are one of the weakest offensive groups in the National Hockey League. On paper, they have a pretty balanced forward group with three lines that should score consistently and a very deep defensive group. In the games, though, that hasn’t happened.
The entire Flames lineup has been generating chances. They’ve had a few games where they’ve looked dangerous. But only the top two lines have scored. Should the Flames break up their productive top six in order to jump-start the rest of the lineup? What would you do?

The current lines

The Flames are currently deploying a group that looks like this:
Gaudreau
Monahan
Ferland
Tkachuk
Backlund
Frolik
Bennett
Jankowski
Jagr
Versteeg
Stajan/Lazar
Brouwer

A possibility

Gaudreau

Tkachuk
Versteeg

Johnny Gaudreau really seemed to elevate Jankowski and Jagr on their couple of post-penalty kill shifts against Vancouver, so he could be an interesting option on that line. (Kris Versteeg also had a whirl with Jankowski and Jagr and ended up hemming Vancouver in their own end for almost 90 seconds.)
Monahan and Tkachuk both play very direct games with little fanciness, so they could rub off nicely on Bennett, who’s arguably dangling too much in an effort to score. Meanwhile, Ferland’s physicality would be a nice complement to the two-way play of Backlund and Frolik, a similar fit to Tkachuk’s role on the line right now.
And the fourth line clump largely stays the same, because throwing them with any of the top nine would arguably make those lines worse.
