With Travis Hamonic back, the Flames are no longer facing injury troubles. Other teams in the NHL are, though: and that includes the Flames’ next opponent, the Maple Leafs.
According to TSN’s Kristen Shilton, the Leafs will be without their leading scorer, Auston Matthews, when the Flames head out east to take them on Monday at 5:00 p.m. MT.
Matthews has 10 goals and 16 points in 11 games this season, so him not being in the lineup, while unfortunate, is probably going to be helpful for the Flames. The Leafs, however, will still likely be a tough task, as they have an 8-3-0 record to start the season.
(Yeah, yeah, centre of the universe and whatnot, but this probably will make an impact as the Flames look to break their three-game losing streak.)
Though the Leafs beat the Jets 3-2 earlier Saturday, this may be the play that will cause Matthews to be out against the Flames:
