The Calgary Flames made a pair of signings official on Sunday morning. The club announced the signing of Zac Rinaldo to a one-year, two-way deal. (They also announced the Tobias Rieder signing reported here on Friday night.)
The club has also placed Rinaldo on waivers.
Stick-taps to our pal Pat Steinberg, who hinted that a Rinaldo deal was coming earlier this week on Twitter.
Rinaldo’s deal is worth $700,000 at the NHL level, the league’s minimum salary. Rinaldo seems destined to head to the AHL, where he can be a mentor to the young forwards – notably Adam Ruzicka and Martin Pospisil, who he played with during the pre-season while in camp on a try-out.
The 29-year-old Rinaldo has developed a bit of a reputation as a player that occasionally crosses the line, but when he keeps things on the up-and-up he can be a pretty useful depth piece. He’s amassed 351 NHL games (and 719 penalty minutes) over stints with Philadelphia, Boston, Arizona and Nashville.
