Talbot named third star of the week

Calgary Flames goaltender Cam Talbot has been named the NHL’s third star of week.

Talbot went red hot in three games for the Flames last week with a 3-0 record (1.67 GAA, .953 save %) that helped the club secure first place in the Pacific Division following a Saturday win against the Edmonton Oilers.

On Jan. 7, Talbot’s 31 save effort helped the Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 and two night later he stood tall stopping 42 shots in a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild.

The 32-year-old Caledonia, Ont. native closed out his week with a 29 save night against the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night.

Talbot has been a strong backup to David Rittich this season posting a 7-7 record with a 2.54 GAA and .922 save percentage in 16 appearances.

But as of late, the netminder has heated up. Since Dec. 7, Talbot has a 6-2 record, a 2.05 GAA and a .940 save percentage.

Talbot was signed by the Flames this past offseason to a one-year, $2.75-million deal.
