The Calgary Flames’ top minor league club, the Stockton Heat, began their season this week. As such, there are a lot of prospects playing hockey now.
Some are doing better than others. Let’s take a look!

This and that:

  • Glenn Gawdin is on the Flames’ roster right now, while Johannes Kinnvall and Connor Zary are on the injury reserve list after suffering training camp injuries. Tyler Parsons is non-roster currently.
  • Matthew Coronato and Harvard finally get going at the end of the month. They beat Dartmouth over the weekend in an informal scrimmage.
  • Adam Werner and Ilya Solovyov are with Stockton but were healthy scratches this week.

Boltmann had zero points as a freshman last season, and now he’s registered points in consecutive weeks. It’s a bit of a stretch to claim that he’s turned the corner offensively, but he’s managing to get much more involved offensively for the Irish than he did a year ago.

The good news: Feuk registered his first points of the season! The bad news: he did so in HockeyEttan, Sweden’s third level of hockey. Typically, prospects with serious NHL hopes and dreams don’t come out of HockeyEttan.

Francis is Stockton’s third line centre… for now! Byron Froese didn’t play over the weekend and presumably when he’s active, that would bump Francis down to the fourth line. At that point, maybe it’d be better for his development to head back to the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs (this year’s Memorial Cup hosts). We’ll see how the Flames manage him.
