Iginla, 17, started playing at the Rink Hockey Academy in Kelowna this year after previously excelling at Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep School in the 2020–21 season. She’s committed to attend Brown University beginning in 2022–23.
The 2022 Women’s Worlds were originally set to take place in Sweden from Jan. 8 to 15 of this year. On Christmas Eve 2021, the IIHF controversially cancelled all tournaments scheduled for January 2022.
Iginla’s father, Jarome, spent 17 seasons with the Calgary Flames from 1996 to 2013 and currently ranks as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. Jarome’s eldest son, Tij, also plays at Rink Hockey Academy as a prospect to the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League.
