Vancouver Canucks defenceman @Tyler Myers made an early exit from Saturday’s game against the Calgary Flames after delivering a high, hard check from behind on opposing forward @Trevor Lewis.
Myers appeared to take offence after taking Lewis’ glove to his face during a race for the puck in Vancouver’s corner. He subsequently braced for impact and threw his shoulder at Lewis’ head.

Lewis left the game after the hit and did not return for the remaining 6:58 of the first period. Myers was assessed a five-minute major and a match penalty for the hit; he and Flames forward @Brett Ritchie each received two-minute roughing minors for their roles in the ensuing post-whistle scrum.
Due to a match penalty being assessed on the play, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety will automatically review Myers’ hit. The Flames did not score during their subsequent five-minute power play and remain tied 0–0 with the Canucks (despite outshooting them 7–1) after the first 20 minutes.
UPDATE (9:09 PM MT, Jan. 29)
#Flames F Trevor Lewis is on the bench as the second period begins. (Left briefly after Tyler Myers' hit.)
