The Calgary Flames began the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs on Tuesday night when they hosted the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of the first round. The Flames scored an early power play goal and then did what they could to make that goal stand as the game-winner, defending fairly well in a penalty-filled game. They held on for 1-0 victory over Dallas to take a 1-0 series lead.
The recap is here, if you missed it. Here are selected highlights and post-game comments from Tuesday night.

The quotes
Head coach Darryl Sutter
"Lots of energy in the building." Darryl Sutter checks in after the 1-0 win over Dallas in Game 1.
On how the game unfolded: āLots of energy in the building. I think we had lots of energy. I think they weathered it in the first, and came out in the second. And then it was pretty even.ā
On Rasmus Anderssonās ejection for his fight with John Klingberg: āI didnāt like the calls on that. Usually thereās an instigator and then⦠Thatās separate. Thatās the second altercation. It is what it is. You know the rule.ā
On if they dealt with the second period well: āYeah, we did. we were down to five D and one defenceman kills a lot of penalties and plays the power play. Heās our best defenceman. So take him out. So yeah, we did.ā
Erik Gudbranson
"They're calling games pretty tight so we have to aware of that and stay out of the box." Erik Gudbranson and Elias Lindholm talk to the media after a hard-fought win in Game 1.
On playing in more close games in the series going forward: āItās gonna be a tough series and very, very good chance thereās going to be more games like that They were one shot away. You have to make plays and we talked about it, say it a million times, but we did it as a five-man unit tonight and didnāt get them that opportunity that they could score on. And obviously Marky played stellar.ā
Elias Lindholm
On the special teams performance in Game 1: āTo be honest, I donāt think we had a lot of shots. We need more shots. Didnāt have a lot of looks. But obviously nice to put one in, and I thought our PK played real well.ā
Blake Coleman
"I thought our (penalty) kill came up big when they needed to." Blake Coleman shares his thoughts on the 1-0 win over Dallas in Game 1.
On weathering a lot of special teams play: āYeah, you know, I think our kill came up big when they needed to. I think the power play gave us enough, they gave us the lone goal of the game. Special teams are really important this time of year. Game 1 we won the special teams battle. But like I said, you donāt want to turn it into a special teams series. I think we like our game five-on-five. I think we can play with the best of them five-on-five, so we gotta be disciplined. We gotta make sure we donāt give teams a way to pick up momentum in games.ā
