The bad news is that the Stockton Heat didn’t capture first overall in the American Hockey League. The good news is they still had a spectacular season, and they’ll enjoy a bye week to practice and recuperate while the other six Pacific Division playoff teams battle it out for seeding in the next round.
As we await for Stockton to get going again, let’s see how everyone’s weeks (and seasons) went.
This and that
- The playing seasons are over for F Mitchell Mattson (Michigan State), F Josh Nodler (also Michigan State), F Demetrios Koumontzis (Arizona State), D Jake Boltmann (Notre Dame), F Matt Coronato (Harvard), F William Stromgren (Rögle) and F Lucas Feuk (Väsby).
- Connor Mackey, Adam Ruzicka and Adam Werner are with the Flames as extra depth players for the playoffs.
- By virtue of winning their division, Stockton gets a week off. They’ll face the lowest-seeded surviving Pacific Division team next week.
Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL / Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
OHL up to date | 36 | 22 | 22 | 44 | 25 | 38 | 22 | 32.37 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
The 67’s got knocked out of the OHL playoffs, but Beck has been summoned to Stockton, joining the Flames’ affiliate on an amateur try-out deal. He might not play, but it’ll be good experience for him to practice with a very good AHL team.
Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
The Thunderbirds knocked out Kelowna in five games, earning a date with the Portland Winterhawks in the second round. Ciona missed one game due to injury in the opening round, but he had three goals in the four playoff games he suited up for.
Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Duehr went pointless this weekend, but he had a really solid first pro season overall considering his role and skill-set.
Lucas Feuk – LW, Västerviks IK, HockeyAllsvenskan / Nybro Vikings IF/Väsby IK, HockeyEttan
Calgary’s fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Allsvenskan up to date | 10 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 6.51 |

HockeyEttan up to date | 32 | 11 | 16 | 27 | 20 | 18 | 16 | n/a |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Vasby’s season is over, as they finished second-last in the Kvalserien to qualify for the second tier HockeyAllsvenskan. Feuk had five points in 10 games. He’ll really need to light it up next season, his last season on the Flames’ reserve list, in order to stoke any interest from the club in offering him an NHL contract.
Ryan Francis – C, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL
Calgary’s fifth round pick (143rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #8-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
AHL up to date | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0.00 |

Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | -0.74 |
Francis had a productive final week of the season, playing on the right side of Saint John’s second line. He just missed the cut for hitting a 30 point NHLe season – when you consider he missed a chunk of the QMJHL season and took awhile to get adjusted after playing in the AHL, he definitely had a good season.
Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
St. Louis’ fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft; free agent signing; #10-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.76 |
Huckins had a quiet final week of the season. The Titan will play Halifax in the opening round of the QMJHL playoffs.
Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL
Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Jordan didn’t hit the scoresheet at all, but Moose Jaw beat Saskatoon in five games in the opening round of the WHL playoffs. They’ll face the Winnipeg Ice in the second round.
Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 67 | 43 | 75 | 118 | 64 | 93 | 58 | 46.65 |

Kinnvall was scratched for the final week of the regular season.
Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | +0.16 |
Kirkland picked up a stat correction assist this week (from the prior week). He just missed out on a 30 point NHLe season. He was excellent for Stockton this season, particularly in the second half.
Yan Kuznetsov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL
Calgary’s second round pick (50th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #15-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | +0.53 |
Kuznetsov served as the defensive yin to Jeremie Poirier’s offensive-minded yang for Saint John for much of the season, but Kuznetsov had himself a few good offensive weeks, too. The Sea Dogs will meet Rimouski in the opening round.
Ilya Nikolaev – C, Tri-City Storm, USHL
Calgary’s third round pick (88th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
The Storm beat Omaha in two games (in their best-of-three opening series). Nikolaev was a big reason for the sweep, as he had four points in Game 1 and two goals in Game 2. Tri-City plays Sioux City in the next round.
Jakob Pelletier – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s first round pick (26th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft; #3-ranked prospect

Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.57 |
Pelletier was held off on the scoresheet in the final game of Stockton’s regular season. But he still had a superb year, being named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team.
Emilio Pettersen – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (167th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #11-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Not only did Pettersen not get any points in Stockton’s last regular season game, but he lost an assist to Justin Kirkland on a stat correction from the prior week.
Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | -0.03 |
Phillips scored the lone goal for Stockton this week, the final Heat goal of the regular season, to put a bow on what’s been a simply superb year for him.
Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.13 |
Solovyov was paired with Juuso Valimaki for much of this week’s game – Stockton’s preference, it seems, was to roll three fairly even defensive pairings. He didn’t get any points, though.
Eetu Tuulola – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (156th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
